Official Visit by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master to the Court of King Alfred the Great No 79
The meeting of the Court of King Alfred the Great No 79 at Winchester Masonic Hall on Friday, 18th August 2017 was a very special meeting in that it was the first occasion in the Masonic Order of Athelstan that Petitioners for a new Court were to be instructed on a day prior to the Consecration of the new Court.

The Court was opened at 5.00pm with W Bro Mark Gannaway, Worshipful Master presiding. There were over 50 members and visitors in attendance.

The Worshipful Master welcomed the Official Visitor, W Bro Michael Ellis, KSM, PSGD, Deputy Provincial Grand Master who was escorted by W Bro Dave Guildford, Provincial Deputy Grand Marshal and accompanied by a large number of Officers of Provincial Grand Court. W Bro Mike took the Chair for a short time and after thanking the brethren for their fantastic welcome and introducing the accompanying Provincial Officers, he returned the Gavel to the Worshipful Master.

History was then made with the instruction of 16 new members into the Order so that they could become Founders and Petitioners for a new Court in the Province to meet on the Isle of Wight. The new court, to be named the Court of Wiht-land No 123, is to be consecrated by the Grand Master later in the year.

W Bro Mark Gannaway then carried out the ceremony of installation of the Master-Elect Bro Simon Wright. W Bro Gannaway also installed the following Petitioners by Dispensation: Bro Colin Wilson, Worshipful Master-designate of the new Court, and Bros Bernard William Brown, Michael Leslie Fuller, Duncan Scott Maguire, Robert Stephens and Colin Victor Maddison.

Both ceremonies were carried out by W Bro Mark Gannaway to the very highest standard in a faultless manner and with great dignity; W Bro Mark also delivered the address to the new Master. Well done Mark – it was a real treat for ALL those attending!

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master presented a Grand Certificate to Bro Clive Egerton in an excellent and informative manner.

48 Brethren later enjoyed a convivial meal at the festive board during which the usual formal toasts were observed.

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master, W Bro Mike, was later heard stating that it was one of the best meetings he had had the privilege of attending.
