The new ritual and the Court of Herbert de Losinga, No 31

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master, R W Bro Roy Leavers, travelled to Kings Lynn on Saturday 17th January 2015 to the Court of Herbert de Losinga, No 31, where the Assistant Grand Master R W Bro Dr Christopher Ansell, assisted by Brethren of the Province of East Anglia, instructed two Brethren into the Order. For the first time in our constitution the amended ritual was used. The changes that have been made have greatly enhanced the ceremony. There is greater clarity and parts are now visually stunning.

Masonic ritual sets the basic principal of Freemasonry and thus teaches us a moral and law abiding pattern of life; to live by the ethics of one’s own religion. It should additionally:

i) Explain to the candidates what is happening and at the same time explain past events.
ii) It should also be such as not to leave the candidate with any doubts; and as far as possible it should be historically correct, although some leeway is given.
iii) It should stimulate the candidate; it must be compelling, gripping the candidate’s imagination; be intellectually challenging and leave the candidate ‘thirsting for more’.

There is no doubt that last Saturday in Kings Lynn the two candidates left the Temple with no doubts, understood the history and were ‘thirsting’ for more.

The new ritual will be ready for distribution within the next two or three weeks.
